Early Signs of Diabetes in Women – Symptoms, Risks & Prevention

Although men and women have the same health complaints in common, the consequences undergone by women are comparatively high. Being physically feeble, they attract serious health issues naturally. Diabetes is one of those issues that they don’t invite but have to cope with. Some may identify at the start of the disease, but some may not. Diabetes may sound like “not a big issue to deal with,” but it’s not. It is big. Ignored diabetes can result in fatal reactions.

In a 2022 survey, 13.9% of women across the world were diagnosed with diabetes. According to the National Family Health Survey of India (NFHS) appropriately 15.4% of women had diabetes in 2019-2021. If you feel like you are likely to have the symptoms of diabetes but don’t know the next steps or wondering how to find the symptoms of diabetes as early as possible?

Continue reading this blog  by, Dr, Durai, Diabetes and Foot Care, Pudukottai,  on how to identify the early signs of diabetes with its symptoms.

Who is the Most Affected?

Diabetes is deadly and can hit anyone at any time, any age group of women. Not to a big surprise, newborns are even getting diagnosed with a type of diabetes called neonatal diabetes mellitus(NDM).

Girl children under the age of 15 and women above 40 are more likely to get affected by type 2 diabetes.

What are the Initial Symptoms?

These early signs of diabetes can occur in your daily life but are often ignored. If you have diabetes, you may have,

Intensified Thirst for Water:

You would have just gulped a glass of water, but the sense of thirst has not subsided yet. You feel like taking more liquid contents than usual. This is one of the common early signs of diabetes.

Increased Appetite:

You will always feel hungry, even if your tummy is just filled. You feel like munching and grinding anytime. The love for food appears out of nowhere. Increased appetite is one of the signs of diabetes.

Fatigue and Weakness:

You will always feel tired. Even if you hardly did any work. You feel weak and low, finding it hard to motivate yourself and get up. This too comes under the early signs of diabetes in women.

Frequent Urination:

When you pay more visits to the bathroom for urinating,  understand that frequent urination is a common symptom in both type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This happens because of high blood sugar and bladder weakness.

Obesity and Weight loss:

Becoming obese or having a drastic downfall in your weight can be an evident sign that you are at risk of getting diagnosed with diabetes. It is obvious to consult your doctor when you notice such changes in your overall body weight.

Other Risk Factors:

Above mentioned are some of the vivid symptoms of diabetes. When you come across any one of these or many, make sure you never leave it unnoticed or ignored. It may lead to other possible serious issues like diminished eyesight, slow healing of wounds and other bruises, menstrual problems, and chronic illnesses. Neglected and ignored diabetes can also affect heart health, kidney functioning,  result in stroke, and extreme cases, diabetes can even cost a life.

Tips to Combat Diabetes:

If you are tested positive for diabetes, follow these steps for better battling with diabetes.

  • Have eyes on your diet, and include more fiber than carbohydrates in your food. I.e., eat more veggies. Avoid deep-fried foods and carbonated drinks.
  • Give your body some exercise, and make movements without sitting still in a place for a longer period. Hit the gym if possible. Jogging, cycling, and swimming are some of the exercises to keep blood sugar in control.
  • Don’t forget to stay hydrated and make sure you never skip the day’s meals.
  • Avoiding the consumption of alcohol is a must.

Following these preventive care tips can help make your tough diabetes journey easier and also help keep the blood sugar levels at bay. Dr. Durai concludes. To learn more about diabetes and foot care or for doctor consultancy,  Visit our website
